Galloway Gallop Fun Run fundraiser set for Feb. 26

The annual Galloway Gallop Fun Run fundraiser is set for Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Kemah Boardwalk, Kipp Avenue, Kemah.

Proceeds from the event — which is part of the Boardwalk's Krewe du Lac Mardi Gras Celebration - will benefit an expansion project on the campus of The Galloway School, a nondenominational private school for grades pre-K through seven at 3200 W. Bay Area Blvd., Friendswood.

Head of School Bonnie Cerace said the project, scheduled to begin in March and be completed within six months, will add six more classrooms to the school at a cost of between $750,000 to $900,000.

"When we thought of the idea of a race as a fundraiser, we thought it was a good way to get the word out about our school to the rest of the community," said Michelle Onorato, race director.

Last year's event raised nearly $11,000, and p roceeds were used toward technology upgrades on campus, Onorato said.
