Galloway Gallop Fun Run fundraiser set for Feb. 26
The annual Galloway Gallop Fun Run fundraiser is set for Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Kemah Boardwalk, Kipp Avenue, Kemah.
Proceeds from the event — which is part of the Boardwalk's Krewe du Lac Mardi Gras Celebration - will benefit an expansion project on the campus of The Galloway School, a nondenominational private school for grades pre-K through seven at 3200 W. Bay Area Blvd., Friendswood.
Head of School Bonnie Cerace said the project, scheduled to begin in March and be completed within six months, will add six more classrooms to the school at a cost of between $750,000 to $900,000.
"When we thought of the idea of a race as a fundraiser, we thought it was a good way to get the word out about our school to the rest of the community," said Michelle Onorato, race director.
Last year's event raised nearly $11,000, and p roceeds were used toward technology upgrades on campus, Onorato said.
The 5K and 10K races will begin at 8 a.m., and will be followed by the Kids K run. The event also will include a variety of children's activities, including face painting and a Mardi Gras-themed costume contest.
Registration packets for the 5K and 10K race can be picked up at the school between 7:30-9 a.m., and 3-6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 23 and 24.
Packets also are available from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at On the Run, a boutique for runners, at 2427 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
Runners also can register online until Thursday, Feb. 24, at www.signmeup.com. Late registration is available on race day at Third and Bradford Streets, near the parking garage and Boardwalk Inn.
Free parking is available for runners until 11 a.m. at all Kemah Boardwalk surface lots.
