Contractors must register in Clear Lake Shores

After Hurricane Ike, some residents in Clear Lake Shores were victimized by contractors hired to make repairs.
In those instances, residents paid in advance for work that was not performed and never saw the unscrupulous contractors again, City Administrator/Police Chief Paul Shelley said.
They just take the money and leave," Shelley said.
In an effort to prevent that from happening again, City Council on Tuesday night amended the city code to require that contractors register with the city in order to do business in Clear Lake Shores, Shelley said. The registration is free, he said.
It's just a protection for our citizens," Shelley said.
Contractors who do not register with the city can be fined up to $2,000, Shelley said.
