Clear Creek ISD students compete in tree potting event
Local high school students recently participated in a competition to plant 4,000 trees.
Students from Clear Creek Independent School District’s Clear Brook High School, Houston Independent School District’s Evan E. Worthing Senior High School and Cesar E. Chavez High School competed in the Harris County Flood Control District’s eighth annual volunteer tree seedling potting event at the district’s South Service Center Tree Nursery, according to the press release.
The students, after being taught how to plant trees properly, raced to plant as many seedlings as they could by noon. The winners received ecologically themed gift bags.
The success of the district’s tree planting program, which started in 2001, inspired the construction of the South Service Center Tree Nursery, located at 5301 Almeda Genoa Road.
The organization, with the help of volunteers, plants almost 20,000 trees annually.
