Expansion of entertainment district only changes parking
Kemah's entertainment district has been expanded, but the change only impacts parking, a city official said.
During its meeting last night, City Council approved the expansion by a 2-1 vote, City Secretary Kathy Pierce said. The only city ordinance in which the entertainment district is mentioned is the one that regulates parking, she said.
Businesses in the entertainment district are allowed to have off-site parking, Pierce said. Those not within its boundaries must have on-site parking, she said.
Although some residents were against expanding the entertainment district, the change does not affect what businesses can be in the area, Pierce said. That's because the city does not have zoning, she said.
This is just strictly about parking," Pierce said. That's all that it affects."
