Clear Brook grad completes jet pilot program
Clear Brook High School 2005 alumnus Mitchell E. Fossum graduated from the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program conducted by the 80th Flying Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls.
Air Force 2nd Lt. Fossum underwent the intensive 55-week training program, receiving 256 hours of flight training in T-37 and T-38 aircraft, and 537 hours of ground training in academics, officer development, physical training, and other required subjects.
The flight program is designed to produce pilots qualified for assignment to military fighter aircraft as part of NATO’s flying force. Approximately 250 flyers each year take part in the program.
Fossum is the son of Melanie and Michael E. Fossum of Rolling Run Court in Houston. His father was a mission specialist onboard the NASA Space Shuttle missions STS-121 and STS-124.
The 2nd Lt. received a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from the U.S. Air Force Academy and is married to Emily.
