HS boys basketball preview: Clear Creek v. Dobie
Clear Creek hosts Dobie in boys high school basketball on Tuesday.
Dobie is 8-5 on the season, and we had a chance to speak with Head Coach Kevin Cross.
“We are about where we thought we would be on the season," Cross said. "We knew we only had one returning player coming back and that a lot of out JV guys would have to adjust to varsity play. But our JV team won district last year, so those kids can play; it is just going to take some time.
"We are not a very big team, so we shoot a lot of three's and try to turn you over. Tonight we have to stop senior forward Trey Webb for League City Clear Creek; he can really light it up."
Following the Clear Creek game, Dobie will host Channelview on Friday.
Clear Creek is 7-3 on the season, and we also spoke with Head Coach Chris Romine.
"We have a long way to go," Romine said. "We are dealing with injuries and acclimating some football players to the hardwood, but I think it will all click in right around the first of the year.”
Coach Romine also said, “Our win over Kingwood on Friday was huge for us, so we think we are turning the corner. Tonight against Dobie, we not only have to stop their three-point shooting, we have to stay and play within our comfort level. They scramble around on defense, so we need to stay cool and not turn the ball over.”
Tonight’s tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
