Learn about diabetes on Dec. 11 at Clear Lake church
The public is invited to attend a free diabetes education class in Clear Lake on Saturday.
The Harris County Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services are sponsoring a free diabetes education class by the Council for Health Education and Development (CFHED) on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The four-hour class, given by a registered dietitian and a speech/language pathologist, focuses on medications, testing, hyperglycemia versus hypoglycemia, complications, healthy food choices and portion control, how to read labels, current research and resources for a healthy lifestyle, and information about carbohydrates, proteins, fats, sweeteners, vitamins and minerals. Certificates will be issued upon completion of the course.
Attendees should dress comfortably and wear sneakers or rubber-soled shoes. Snacks, juice and water will be provided, and guests may bring their lunch.
In addition, 50 attendees will receive a free copy of the book, Diabetes A to Z.
The class will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real.
