HS football preview: Friendswood v. Austin Lake Travis
Friendswood battles Austin Lake Travis in the 4A State semi-finals on Saturday.
The Mustangs defeated Montgomery 49-28 in the quarter-finals to reach this stage. Friendswood quarterback Peter Maetzold threw for 396 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Maetzold, a senior, has passed for 3,543 yards, 34 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. He has also rushed for 477 yards and 17 scores.
The leading rusher for Mustangs Head Coach Steve Van Meter is Jonathan Johnson. Johnson, a junior, has rushed for 13 touchdowns and 1,479 yards. Johnson also has 39 receptions on the year for 482 yards and seven scoring grabs.
Matt Kennemer, a senior, leads Friendswood with 60 receptions for 841 yards and four touchdowns. Jordan Bolton has 38 catches for 605 yards and four scores.
Austin Lake Travis beat Cedar Park 21-20 to reach the state semi-finals.
Saturday’s kick off is slated for 2 p.m. at Kyle Field.
