League City Lions to hold event benefiting family who lost three children in fire

The Fired Up Cookers and League City Lions Club are planning a barbecue benefit on Dec. 11 to assist the Dana Novak family.

The family was involved in a tragic fire that killed three of the children on Veteran’s Day.

On that horrific day, Dana Novak was pulled from the fire and given CPR, but was prevented by firefighters from entering the burning building to find her children.

Nathaniel, Novak’s 5-year-old son, was taken to Memorial Hermann and put on life support, where he died the next day. Kaitlyn, Novak’s 12-year-old daughter and student at Space City Intermediate, and Christian, her 8-year-old son who attended Armond Bayou Elementary, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The barbecue will be held at the League City Civic Center from noon to 4:30 p.m., and plates cost $8. There will be both a live and silent auction, bake sale and raffle of big ticket items.

Included in the auction are a baseball autographed by former Astros great Jose Cruz, one by current All-Star Hunter Pence and a commemorative All-Star pin set.

Entertainment will be provided by locals bands and two DJs, who have donated their time for the day.

A tax-deductible donation can be made to the League City Lions Charities Inc. with a notation, "Novak Benefit," at P.O. Box 982, League City, Texas, 77574-0982.
