UTHealth seeks Webster-area volunteers for nursing facilities
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is recruiting volunteers for its long-term care ombudsman program.
Ombudsman volunteers serve as advocates for residents living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Harris County. They visit residents and their families, investigate and resolve complaints, advocate for system changes and monitor conditions and care.
Volunteers must be 18 or older and live in Harris County. The greatest need for volunteers is in the southeast part of the county, where there are currently only enough volunteers to cover about half of the facilities in Baytown, Webster, Pasadena and surrounding communities.
Staff at the UTHealth School of Nursing Center on Aging will provide training.
For information, call 713-500-9931, e-mail ombudsman@uth.tmc.edu or visit www.son.uth.tmc.edu/coa/ombudsman.htm.
