Clear Lake star sets ACC record
Clear Lake High School graduate, Dustin Hopkins, 2009, was named ACC specialist of the week after kicking a 55-yard field goal, the longest in Atlantic Coast Conference history.
Hopkins' boot was dead center when the ball crossed the uprights as time expired, allowing the Florida State Seminoles (7-3, 5-2) to escape with a 16-13 win over Clemson (5-5, 3-4) Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium.
The kick was a career long for Hopkins and the third longest in school history.
The son of Jim and Karen Hopkins was the consensus top-rated kicker in the country coming out of high school. He was a two-time Texas 5A All-State selection and a USA Today first-team all-American as a senior.
Like former FSU standout kickers Scott Bentley and Sebastian Janikowski, Hopkins is a gifted athlete who also contributed to his Clear Lake High School team as a starter in the secondary
Hopkins selected FSU over Notre Dame, Missouri and Kansas State.
