Volleyball preview: Friendswood at Pearland Dawson Tuesday night
The Friendswood Lady Mustangs (20-5) visit the Pearland Dawson Lady Eagles (33-7) Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
The match will determine the 4A District-24 champion.
If Friendswood is victorious they will be district champions but if Dawson defeats them both teams have agreed to be called co-district champions and to flip a coin for seeding in the regional playoffs. This is because Friendswood beat Dawson three games to two October 1.
The Lady Mustangs are led by 5’10” senior outside hitter Jasmine Casey. She leads the team with 235 kills and has 93 digs.
6’0” sophomore outside hitter Jillian Bergeson has 148 kills and 48 digs.
Junior Alex Beaver sets Casey and Bergeson up. The 5’7” setter has 122 assists and is averaging over six assists per game while also having compiled 28 digs.
5’8” sophomore Maddy Landon has also contributed 102 assists for Friendswood.
Dawson senior libro Ywande Akanbi is a Northwestern University commitment.
The 5’10” Akanbi leads the Lady Eagles with 351 kills and 53 service aces while also having 215 digs this season.
6’0” senior defensive setter Camryn Kazmierski has compiled 216 kills and 67 digs for Friendswood.
Olivia Underwood and Katelyn Haynie set the killers up.
Underwood leads the team in assists with 426. The 5’8” junior also has 193 digs.
