Friendswood quarterback Peter Maetzold committed to Fordham University earlier this week.

Maetzold has thrown 21 touchdown passes for the Mustangs this year and rushed for 15 scores. He has compiled 2,263 passing yards and is averaging more than 250 passing yards per game while also having thrown seven interceptions this season.

Maetzold is also the Mustangs punter and is averaging over 40 yards per punt with his longest being 62 yards. He was also recruited by Rice and Utah.

Fordham has a storied football program. Rams football was first recognized by the university during the 1880s and legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi was a member of the famed Fordham offensive line nicknamed the Seven Blocks of Granite during the 1930s. Fordham also won a national championship in 1929 and Patriot League titles in 2002 and 2007.

Maetzold will join former Houston-area players John Hohlt and Matthew Sconiers on the Rams roster. Hohlt is currently a sophomore offensive lineman at Fordham and holds the Strake Jesuit Crusaders baseball record for most home runs in one game with three. Former Clear Lake District 24-5A All-District selection Matthew Sconiers is also a sophomore defensive lineman at Fordham.

Maetzold is the second Mustang to commit. Center Ben Compton chose Texas A & M in August. Friendswood's Travis Manning, Will Fitzpatrick, and Matt Kemmer still haven't chosen a school from their list of collegiate suitors.
