Clear Springs at Dickinson in district football Friday
The Clear Springs Chargers (5-2) visit the Dickinson Gators (4-3) Friday.
Clear Springs put-up 560 yards of total offense last week defeating Clear Lake 48-30. As impressive as this offensive output was the Chargers are led by many big-time collegiate defensive recruits. Howard Matthews was recruited to play defensive back by Texas A&M but the Clear Springs player has produced six rushing touchdowns and compiled 531 rushing yards for the Chargers while averaging more than nine-yards per carry.
Linebacker Brandon Mickens committed to Kansas State earlier in the week and has 4.5 sacks while averaging 7.6 tackles per game. Linebacker Trevon Randle, an LSU Tiger next year, has two interceptions and averages 12 tackles per game while maintaining an average of 30-yards per kickoff return. Linebacker Donnie Baggs will join Matthews at Texas A&M next year and is averaging more than five tackles per game.
The Chargers secondary just keeps getting better as defensive back Sam Richardson can be included in this impressive lineup. The Iowa State commitment is averaging more than six tackles per game.
Offensively, quarterback Dylan Doebler has been brilliant. Doebler has 17 passing touchdowns and compiled over 1,600 passing yards while having thrown only four interceptions. Doebler also has a 65-yard touchdown reception this season. His top target this year has been Marcus Johnson who has seven touchdown receptions and 513 receiving yards while averaging an astounding 21.38 yards per catch.
Chargers running back Xavion Taylor has rushed for six touchdowns and has 382 rushing yards.
Dickinson beat the reeling Alvin Yellowjackets 35-21 last week behind the inspired running of Tyrell Preston. He had three touchdowns and over 200 rushing yards while averaging nine-yards per carry during the victory. Preston has 12 rushing touchdowns and 895 rushing yards for the season. Gators quarterback Charles Barkmann has combined for 11 touchdowns and over 1,100 yards while also having thrown six interceptions this year.
Barkmann's top targets have been Dittrich Bunton and Colby Ginn who have combined for three touchdown receptions and over 500 receiving yards. 6'5" 215 lbs. Arkansas commitment Jashaud Sims anchors the Dickinson defense. Sims had 110 tackles, 18 pass breakups, and three interceptions as a safety last year. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
