Friendswood PD apprehends suspect in 1993 murder

Friendswood Police recently reported that they arrested Ismael Manasrra in connection with a murder that took place in Travis County in 1993.

Friendswood Police pulled over a man for a traffic violation in the 5100 block of FM 528, on Oct. 15.  During questioning, police believed the suspect was driving while intoxicated, allegedly registering .142 on a breath test, and was driving without a license.

Police say the suspect behaved suspiciously when officers asked his name, but claimed he was Luis Reyes, age 42.  After reviewing his fingerprints, officers say they discovered his true identity to be Ismael Manasrra.  Manasrra also allegedly uses the alias Michael Morales.

On Sunday Oct. 17, the Travis County Sheriff's Office contacted the Friendswood Police to inform them that Reyes was a suspect in a 1993 capital murder case out of the 167th District Court in Travis County.

Reyes is being held at the Galveston County jail on a $100,000 bond.  He is awaiting a transfer to the Travis County Jail.

Police say Manasrra has a criminal record dating back to 1993 for arson and for theft in 1994.  Records show he was also detained by the INS at the Texas-Mexico border in 1998 for illegal entry.  The investigation is ongoing.
