Clear Brook defeats Brazoswood in district play
The Wolverines Jeremy Mikes had three rushing touchdowns and finished with 150 rushing yards while running back Arthur Caudillo passed for a score and finished with 79 rushing yards as Clear Brook defeated the reeling Brazoswood Buccaneers 45-28 Thursday night at Veterans Stadium.
The Wolverines snapped a two-game losing streak while the Buccaneers suffered their third consecutive loss.
Clear Brook improves to 4-3 while Brazoswood moves to 3-4 on the season.
Clear Brook scored first on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Arthur Caudillo to Josh Salway nine seconds into the game. Dusteyn Suttle added the two-point conversion giving the Wolverines an 8-0 lead.
Brazoswood's star running back Rickey Lunford broke free for a 14-yard touchdown run less than a minute later making the score 8-7. Lunford finished with two touchdown runs and 168 rushing yards.
Clearbrook scored the next two touchdowns on back to back seven yard runs by Timothy East and Jeremy Mikes. Aaron Yelovich added the extra points giving the Wolverines a 22-7 lead.
Brazoswood responded midway through the second quarter with a Drew Ritchie eight-yard touchdown run. Ritchie finished with two rushing scores and combined for 148 yards while throwing two interceptions.The extra point attempt failed making the score 22-13.
Yelovich connected on a 24-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining in the half to give the Wolverines a 25-13 lead.
Clear Brook quarterback Matt Heidt sneaked in for a one-yard touchdown with 7:29 remaining in the third quarter making the score 31-13 when Yelovich failed on the extra point attempt.
The Buccaneers Ritchie answered with a 22-yard touchdown run a liitle over a minute later. Brazoswood kicker Abram Gable added the extra point making the score 31-20 Wolverines.
Mikes added his second touchdown run and Yelovich tacked on the extra point making the score 38-20 Clear Brook at the end of the third quarter.
Lunford scored his second rushing touchdown six seconds into the fourth bringing the score to 38-28 after Ritchie was successful on the two-point conversion.
The Wolverines Mikes made the final score 45-18 with his third rushing touchdown and fourth Yelovich extra point with 41 seconds remaining.
Clear Brook faces Clear Lake October 22 while Brazoswood hosts Pearland October 22.
