Clear Springs hosts Clear Lake in district play Friday night

The Clear Springs Chargers (4-2) host the Clear Lake Falcons (3-3) Friday night.

Clear Springs defeated Clear Brook 46-13 last week for their second consecutive victory and are averaging 263 passing yards and 136 rushing yards per game.

The Chargers defense is averaging more than 100 tackles and three sacks per game. Clear Springs quarterback Dylan Doebler has passed for 14 touchdowns and is averaging 227 passing yards per game.

Doebler’s top targets are Marcus Johnson and Dimitri Donald who have combined for 900 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. Clear Springs running backs Howard Matthews and Xavion Taylor have combined for 700 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Chargers defensive stalwarts include Trevon Randle and Dallas McClarty who have combined for over 140 tackles. Clear Lake defeated Alvin 39-26 at home last week and have been outscored 173 to 168 by opponents this season.

The Falcons are averaging more than 300 rushing yards and only 15 passing yards per game. Clear Lake quarterback Karson Roberts has nine touchdowns and 795 rushing yards but has also lost three fumbles. Running back Sean McRaney has seven touchdowns and is averaging 102 rushing yards per game.

Javen Godfrey leads the secondary for Clear Lake with two interceptions.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Veterans Stadium.
