Friendswood hosts Manvel in district clash Friday night
The Friendswood Mustangs (7-0) host the Manvel Mavericks (5-1) Friday night.
Friendswood defeated previously unbeaten La Marque 55-41 last week to remain perfect.
The Mustangs are averaging 44 points per game while allowing opponents 26 points per game.
The Friendswood offense is averaging 259 passing yards and 197 rushing yards this season.
Quarterback Pete Maetzold is having an MVP worthy year. He has passed for 18 touchdowns, 1,798 yards, and has only thrown three interceptions while rushing for 11 touchdowns and 151 yards.
The Mustangs Maetzold also averages more than 42-yards a punt for Friendswood and his longest punt this year was an incredible 62-yards.
Friendswood running back Jonathan Johnson has eight rushing touchdowns and 889 rushing yards while averaging over seven yards per carry.
Receiver Matthew Kennemer leads the Mustangs with 433 receiving yards and has two touchdowns.
Jordan Bolton has 348 receiving yards and is tied with Justin Battle for the team lead in touchdown receptions with four.
Add T.J. Scott into the receiving mix and you give the talented Maetzold a playmaker to target. Scott averages over 28-yards per reception and has three touchdowns.
Travis Manning leads Friendswood with three sacks while Jordan Wood is the Mustangs interception leader with three picks.
Manvel defeated Santa Fe 35-14 last week rebounding from a 41-17 loss to La Marque the week prior. That is the same La Marque squad that Friendswood beat last week.
The Mavericks are averaging 38 points per game.
The Manvel offense is averaging 202 passing yards and 192 rushing yards per game while the Mavericks defense is averaging 73 tackles and 4 sacks per game.
The Manvel defense has been impressive recording week three and four shutouts against Goose Creek Memorial and Sharpstown while also limiting opponents to an average of 13 points per game.
The Mavericks feature two similar options at quarterback.
Dexter Foreman and Travaughn Colwell have combined for 18 touchdowns and 1,440 yards.
Receiver Adrian Gonzalez has 444 receiving yards and nine touchdown receptions while running back Richard Rose has 381 rushing yards averaging 8.65 yards per carry with three touchdowns.
The Mavericks Trevion Alexander has contributed three rushing touchdowns in limited action.
Leading the Manvel defese is Shaka Starling who is averaging more than 10 tackles per game while Brian Dubose and Wesley McCowin have combined for 86 tackles.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
