Friendswood hopes to leave mark on La Marque in district battle of unbeatens Friday
The La Marque Cougars (5-0) host the Friendswood Mustangs (6-0) in a district battle of unbeatens Friday.
La Marque defeated Santa fe 35-14 last week and have outscored opponents 191 to 55. Junior running back Tim Wright leads the experienced Cougars who were a combined 7-13 over the last two years. Wright was an all-district selection as a freshman and has rushed for 688 yards and eight touchdowns. He is rushing for a 12.07 yards per carry average. Receiver Tim Oliver is averaging 20 yards per reception and has three touchdowns.
Friendswood continued to roll last week behind their prolific offense defeating Pearland dawson 34-27. The Mustangs are averaging more than 42 points per game and are led by quarterback pete Maetzold and his 122 QB rating. Maetzold has passed for over 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns while only throwing three interceptions. Junior running back Jonathan Johnson is Matzold's top target and has 925 combined yards and eight touchdowns.
Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
