Clear Lake kicker proves to be a weapon for Seminoles
Clear Lake H.S graduate (2009) and Florida State placekicker Dustin Hopkins is turning heads in Tallahassee.
Seminole Head Coach Jimbo Fischer said “Dustin has become such a weapon.”
Florida State did not need to rely on their new kicking super star that much in their 31-0 pounding of Wake Forest on Saturday.Hopkins did nail a 34-yard field goal, and saw a 51-yard attempt fall just short before the first half ended.
But there is no doubt that the former Clear Lake phenom has become a go-to guy for the Florida State faithful. He crushed a 52-yard field goal against Oklahoma and has made over 50 straight extra-point attempts.
Hopkins also regularly neutralizes the opponents return game by drilling the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs.
At Clear Lake H.S. he was the consensus top-rated kicker in the country. He was a two-time Texas 5A All-State selection and USA Today first team All-American as a senior. The media and communications major selected Florida State over Notre Dame, Missouri and Kansas State.
Hopkins and the rest of the Seminoles take on Virginia Saturday in Charlottesville at 11:00 a.m. CST on the ACC network.
