Reminder: Public hearing's on widening I-45

The Texas Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on a proposed widening of the Gulf Freeway from FM 518 to FM 1764.
The meeting is set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Clear Creek Springs High School in League City. Transportation officials will be available to answer questions during the first hour, and the hearing will come during the second hour.
The proposal is to widen that stretch of the freeway from six lanes to eight lanes and to widen shoulders. The frontage roads and ramps would also be reconfigured.
The project is meant to accommodate future growth of the region and to improve safety and hurricane evacuation.
Approximately 11.3 acres of right-of-way would have to be acquired for the project.
That right-of-way would be 10 feet on both sides of I-45 from FM 518 to Hughes Road. TxDOT project manager Roger Gonzalez said he did not believe that any businesses would be forced to move, but some could lose green space and parking spots.
