League City gets $3 million grant for generators

The next time that a hurricane hits in League City, the city will be even more prepared for being without power.
This week, the city received a $3.1 million disaster recovery grant from the Texas Department of Rural Affairs to purchase dedicated generators for its lift stations, which provide water and sewer service, city spokeswoman Kristi Wyatt said.
During Hurricane Ike last year, League City had power failures at its lift stations but was able to borrow or rent generators to prevent interruption of service, she said.
We're very excited," Wyatt said. Whenever there's a disaster we want to make sure that people continue to have essential services. Our water and sewage are essential services so this helps a lot."
The city does not yet know when it will order or receive the generators, Wyatt said.
