Runaway caught living in Friendswood park

A 16-year-old Brazoria County runaway has been charged with a misdemeanor after attempting to take shelter by breaking into the pool building of a Friendswood park.
The boy was stopped by Friendswood police Monday about 3:35 p.m. while walking in the 16700 block of Blackhawk Avenue. Police said he matched the description of a person caught on video who tried to break in that morning to the pool building at Forest Bend Park, 4303 Laura Leigh.
Friendswood Police Chief Bob Wieners said that the boy admitted he'd been staying in Forest Bend Park and was looking for indoor shelter. He was arrested and later identified as a Brazoria County teen who'd run away in July.
He had been living out on the street or wherever he could find shelter," Wieners said. This was really kind of probably a predictable instinct for somebody who was at risk and didn't really have a plan for how he was going to survive."
The boy was transferred to the Harris County juvenile detention center in Houston, and his parents were to be informed of his status.
Rightfully so, the justice system takes a very parental role in trying to remediate the behaviors of juvenile misbehavior," Wieners said. I think in his particular case, they're going to try and get him on track."
