Dirty pools will be ticketed in El Lago
El Lago residents better start making sure that their swimming pools are kept clean.
During its meeting Wednesday, City Council approved an ordinance requiring the maintenance of swimming pools in the city, City Secretary Ann Vernon said. The new measure will go into effect later this month, she said.
Under the ordinance, the bottom of a swimming pool's deepest part must be visible, Vernon said. It also cannot emit noxious odors or breed insects, she said.
Violators face a Class C misdemeanor and can be fined anywhere from $25 to $500 daily, Vernon said. The new ordinance will be enforced by Lakeview police department, which serves both El Lago and Taylor Lake Village.
It was prompted by residents who have complained about neglected swimming pools that are murky and produce mosquitoes, Vernon said.
They feel like they're a hazard," Vernon said. If a child fell in, nobody would even know that the child was in there."
