Retired professors awarded emeritus status

Four retired University of Houston-Clear Lake professors have been awarded emeritus status by the University of Houston System Board of Regents during its August meeting.
Martha Dillner was awarded professor emeritus of reading and language arts, while Robert McGlashan was awarded professor emeritus of management.
Two school of human sciences and humanities professors gained emeritus status including Gretchen Mieszkowski, professor emeritus of literature and Howard Eisner, associate professor emeritus of psychology.
Faculty emeriti nominees are selected by fellow faculty members based on their long-term support to the university, in addition to exhibiting a sustained and distinguished record of teaching, scholarship or service.
Once a faculty member has been nominated to receive professor emeritus status, the nominating committee, which includes a tenured professor from each of the university's four schools, reviews the nominations and submits recommendations to the university's deans, provost and president for final review.
All appointment nominations are then reviewed and presented to University of Houston System Board of Regents for approval.
