Mall gets tenant for former Mervyn's space

The former Mervyn's location in Baybrook Mall will be getting a new tenant soon.
Fashion retailer Forever 21 has signed a deal with General Growth Properties, which oversees the mall, to move into the two-story, 82,000-square-foot anchor space, which has been vacant since 2006, when Mervyn's closed all eight of its Houston locations.
Construction is expected to start toward the end of the year, with an anticipated opening in the spring.
Mall general manager Brian Schroeder said Forever 21 has had a store in the mall since 2006, operating out of a 7,000-square-foot space near JC Penney.
Taking occupancy of 80,000 square feet is a big expansion for them," he said. It's actually very exciting."
Forever 21 also is expanding into a larger area in The Woodlands Mall.
The Los Angeles-based stores offers the hottest fashions trends at a great value," according to a news release.
