Clear Lake High School’s Speech & Debate team sent five students to the 36th Annual Harvard National High School Invitational Forensic (Speech & Debate) tournament in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The policy debate teams of George Liu and Shree Deshpande and Kira Kurtzman and Ashley Cubley along with Student Congress participant Elizabeth Cassity attended this prestigious competition February 11-15.
George Liu and Shree Deshpande advanced to semis in junior varsity winning a Harvard 3rd place cup. The team was ranked top seed after prelims. They won 9 out of 9 debates and would have progressed further but had a flight to catch before another winter storm was due to hit the area. George also won 2nd place top speaker in junior varsity debate.
The varsity debate team of Albert Yau and Chatura Rodrigo attended the Kempner Speech and Debate tournament on February 12th and 13th. They advanced in policy debate and were awarded two (2) points which qualify them for competition in the Texas Forensic Association tournament to be held in El Paso in March.
Speech and debate students are currently preparing for the National Forensic League’s Texas South district competition to be held on February 25th, 26th and 27th at Elkins High School.
The Bickel and Brewer Foundation in conjunction with New York University awarded certificates of achievement to Aakash Batra, Lingxi Chenyang, Jenny Le, and Stephen Tran for outstanding contributions to the 2009 – 2010 International Public Policy Forum. Clear Lake High School received a Third Place plaque for their achievements.
