published Feb. 28, 2011
The Bales Intermediate Robotics Team was recently recognized and honored at its school board meeting for placing second at the Texas Computer Educators Association competition.
The competition's theme was "Texas Tea" and was designed around the process of oil exploration and drilling. Students programmed their robot to move the prototype oil drilling rigs to the outside edges of the drilling field and cap each of the wells. Strategies to compete in the competition included speed, accuracy, sensing objects and light.
The "Mighty Mustangs" team placed second overall at the contest, which included 38 teams from the area.
Team members were Cole Veloz, Alex Wachowicz, Wyatt Hall, Luke Revere, Clay Davis, Reid Nickerson, Caleb Clasen, Colin Madden, Garrett McGreggor, Julian Falco, Christopher Hoskins and Chris Gabbert.
Board member Mike Shaw presented the team members with certificates for Celebration of Excellence.
The Area 4 Mindstorms Robotics Competition took place at Pearland Junior High South on Jan 8.
