College Baseball: Jake Runte, University of Houston
published May. 26, 2012Jake Runte went 1 for 4 in University of Houston's 7-3 loss to Memphis on Thursday. Runte graduated from Clear Lake High School.
Runte is a 2008 graduate of Clear Lake High School where he was a three-year letterman and two-time all-district selection playing for coach Rupert Jaso. As a senior, 2007-2008, he led the team in batting average, steals, triples, walks and assists while earning a selection to the THSBCA all-star team. Runte ended his baseball career at Clear Lake as the career and single-season record holder in assists. He also played football at Clear Lake and was a two-year starter on the gridiron. He was an all-district and all-academic selection as a senior. Runte played summer baseball for the Houston Heat for coach Phil Cross helping them to the Summer World Series championship in 2008 and a runner-up finish in 2005. Coming out of high school, Runte was recruited by Kansas Wesleyan, Panola Junior College and Dallas Baptist before selection Houston, where he is a kinesiology major. College Baseball: Bobby Loveless, Stephen F. Austin State University
published May. 20, 2012Bobby Loveless went 1 for 4 in Stephen F. Austin State University's 5-4 loss to Nicholls State University on Thursday. Loveless graduated from Friendswood High School in 2008.
A graduate of Friendswood High School, Loveless holds the school records for single-season and career home runs, RBIs and hits. He had career batting average of .388 with 29 home runs, 97 RBIs, 97 hits and 64 runs scored. During his senior season (2006-2007) Loveless hit .374 with seven home runs while earning All-District, All-Greater Houston and third-team All-State honors. As a junior (2005-2006) he belted nine home runs while batting .425 to earn All-District 23-4A second-team honors as a third baseman. He participated in the 2006 Texas National High School Power Showcase Home Run Derby, where we was the co-winner with 28 total home runs and set the event record for most home runs in a single round with 22. As a sophomore (2004-2005), Loveless set Friendswoods' single-season home run record with 13 and batted .388. He was an All-District, All-Greater Houston and honorable mention All-State selection. College Baseball: Matt Juengel, Texas A&M
published May. 20, 2012Matt Juengel went 2 for 5 and scored a run in Texas A&M's 5-4 loss at Oklahoma State on Thursday. Juengel graduated from Friendswood Clear Brook High School.
A 2008 graduate of Clear Brook High School, Juengel won three varsity letters playing for coach Russell Farrell. As a senior, 2007-2008, Juengel batted .392 to earn first-team all-district honors at third base. As a junior, 2006-2007, he hit .378 while helping the Wolverines to a trip to the state playoffs. Juengel collected first-team all-district and all-greater Houston accolades. He was named the team's newcomer of the year after hitting .352 as a sophomore, 2005-2006. Juengel played summer baseball for the Houston Heat and Baytown Knights. Born Jan. 13, 1990 the son of David and Carol Juengel, he is a sports management major. Read more...
