College Baseball: Jake Runte, University of Houston
Jake Runte went 0 for 4 in University of Houston's 11-0 loss to Memphis on Thursday. Runte graduated from Clear Lake High School.
Runte is a 2008 graduate of Clear Lake High School where he was a three-year letterman and two-time all-district selection playing for coach Rupert Jaso. As a senior, 2007-2008, he led the team in batting average, steals, triples, walks and assists while earning a selection to the THSBCA all-star team. Runte ended his baseball career at Clear Lake as the career and single-season record holder in assists. He also played football at Clear Lake and was a two-year starter on the gridiron. He was an all-district and all-academic selection as a senior. Runte played summer baseball for the Houston Heat for coach Phil Cross helping them to the Summer World Series championship in 2008 and a runner-up finish in 2005. Coming out of high school, Runte was recruited by Kansas Wesleyan, Panola Junior College and Dallas Baptist before selection Houston, where he is a kinesiology major. He is the son of Jim and Diane Runte.
