Students and educators at Clear Springs High School got a shock this week when a Harris County judge trying to warn teens off drunken driving went further than they expected.
Harris County criminal court Judge Larry Standley spoke about both drugs and drinking at Wednesday's assembly, and junior Michelle Anderson told KTRK:
"It offended me when he stated the fact that most of us kids were going to go out and get drunk during spring break, to just not do it while we were driving," said Anderson.

Judge Larry Standley
In November, 2008 the Harris County Republican Party chairman called for Judge Standley to resign because using the courthouse computer system, he circulated e-mail in 2006 that ridiculed blacks, Hispanics, women and gays and contained a racial slur. Now this. What's with this man? What's with the GOP and why is this judge ask (allowed?) to be a speaker at a school?

A political party can not control a member who is a judge. It’s leaders can, informally encourage others to oppose him in a primary election,
The Media has onbly shown one side of this tempest in a teapot".

Alexavia Moya i was also present at the assembly. i thought his approach was both original and very honest. i believe that a lot of what he said has been twisted into a something completely different to feed the need for drama.
the truth is we are teenagers and we are bound to experiment. everyone is. but just be aware of the consequences and the severity of the damage that can be caused if we do choose to do so.i understood that message. its a shame most other people didn't.
i am embarrased at the way our school has been represented on the news. we look like some whino bitches. and just for the record, michelle anderson (the chick that represented our school on the news) DOESN'T speak for the whole school, and shouldn't have. we have the capacity to form different opinions.

Amy Paige Chapman Im a springs kid. Not a junio so I didnt hear the speech. Im not siding with the media because they do often hilight all the stuff that depresses some but Im not fully siding with your father. It did sould like an interesting way to get the kids attention and I do like the way he said that kids should never do drugs an...d drink. To me thats painting a big red button for teens that we just have to push. But at the same time, I do think he could of done somethings differently. Oh well. I hope he can keep his job. :). Sounds like a cool dad. My dads the same. Hes tells me that I will eventually try SOMETHING, wether it be drinking or sex, but he tells me not to handle it stupidly and to do the mature thing. He doesnt condone me. I wish your family luck :).

From A Clear Springs Student
Hi, I know I don't know you or anything, but I do want to say that this whole thing was blown out of proportion. I go to clear springs, and I was absent the day this all happened thanks to a dr.appt., but I would have been in the assembly if I was there. Please know that many of my friends disagree with ABC news and some of the kids at our school that took things way to literally. My friend even emailed ABC and said they were dumb for even airing that. Please tell your dad that some kids in the audience did get his message, and think this whole thing is messed up. At first i'll admit, people told me what had happened, and I agreed because I didn't know what else to believe, but now I have both sides, and I can't help but know that this could potentially ruin a person's career, and it ticks me off. Your dad did nothing wrong, and I'm glad he can understand us the way he does. Please tell your dad from me, that many kids at springs ARE rooting for him, and feel this never should have happened, and that we're sorry it did. Don't think all of us agree with the person who sent that email to ABC cause we don't. I really hope everything turns out ok for yall, and tell your dad to keep his passion, because there really isn't too many judges who cares for teens the way he does, and i'm glad that there is still good people in the world. I hope this gives you and your dad, and the people who support him a little bit of comfort.

We Back You Judge Standley
How sad is this! Pathetically, it looks like the students are in control at Clear Springs HS. Shame on the Administration there for not being in control of their own school, shame on the students for not being "adult" enough to listen to a frank speech about alcoholism. Next time, the district should just pass out balloons that read "Just Say No!" that way, self-thinkers like Student "Miss Anderson" won't be offended. Maybe Clear Springs HS could even throw in a piece of candy with the balloon, but we wouldn't want to lump all the students into one group by assuming that they "all eat candy"....that's how they got their feelings hurt to begin with, right!
PATHETIC!
