Photo by Kim ChristensenServices will be held Tuesday for Dee Wright, a former Seabrook councilwoman who died on Friday after three weeks in a coma.
The Bay Area Citizen reports that Wright, 51, fell into the coma following an infection.
Her family said she'd had weight-loss surgery in August and after losing more than 50 pounds, she was looking ahead. The Citizen reported she'd been planning to run for mayor of Seabrook in 2011.
A banker at Wachovia's Seabrook branch, Wright served on the Seabrook City Council from 2002 to 2008.
Friends and family are sharing memories of Wright on a Web site created by her son at http://getdeebetter.blogspot.com.
On Friday her son Dallas wrote:
"My Mom is a fighter. She knows what she wants and goes for it. Tonight she wanted to be with her maker."
A Jewish service will be held in the sanctuary of Temple Beth Tikvah, 12411 Park Shadows Trail in Houston, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2.
Afterward, there will be a funeral procession to Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway.
A celebration of her life will follow at 2 p.m. in the Seabrook Community House, 1786 1st St. in Seabrook.
For those wishing to make donations, the family suggests any of the causes supported by Wright. She rode on an IBM team in the MS150 race that raises money for Multiple Sclerosis, and she thought highly of the animal-fostering organization Second Chance Pets. The family's congregation is Temple Beth Tikvah.
