Feedback sought on disc golf course

Taylor Lake Village is seeking input from its residents about changes that will be made to the city’s controversial disc golf course.

City Council has already said that the 15-hole course in Taylor Lake Village Park will be altered to eliminates areas in which discs are thrown across the park’s jogging trail, to keep playground areas out of throwing range, and to protect the wetlands at the southern end of the park by moving one of the baskets away from the marsh.

The city has received complaints about littering, urination and errant discs since the course opened in October.

The Disc Golf Course Citizen Input Request Form that the city is asking residents to fill out has four options and a section for written comments. It breaks down the portion of the park that could be used for disc golf in to five sections (Zones A, B, C, D and E) with a map.

The form and map can be accessed here. All four options would include the removal of all three holes from Zone A, a portion of the course adjacent to residential areas.

The four options are as follows according to the form:

    • The first option would remove only the holes from Zone A. This would result in a 15-hole course using Zones B, C and D with none of the throwing patterns intentionally crossing the jogging trail and throwing patterns for eight holes would be adjacent to the jogging trail.

    • The second option would remove holes in Zones A and B. This would result in a 12-hole course using only Zones C and D. The committee would also explore the feasibility of using Zone E (the area nearest the pond and dog “leash-free” run area). None of the holes would have a throwing pattern that intentionally crosses the jogging trail and four holes would have throwing patterns that are adjacent to the trail.

    • The third option would use Zone D only, and explore the possibility of adding additional holes in Zone E. Zones A, B, and C would not be used for disc golf. The current course layout has 8 holes in Zone D, and the configuration of the holes may be re-optimized to allow for a 9th hole in Zone D (or Zone E). None of the holes in the configuration would have throwing patterns that either crossed the jogging trail or were adjacent to it.

    • The fourth option would remove the disc golf course from the park.

Only set of comments is allowed per person. The form is to be returned to City Hall, 500 Kirby Boulevard, or via e-mail to the city at city_secretary@tlv-tx.us.

    Wish it could be fixed

Well after all the time and money spent to put in the TLV course it looks like the city is ready to trash it. None of the proposed plans will make it 18 holes again. Not to mention the fact that they have four options that just rips the course apart. My suggestion at this point is to remove this course and see if you could move it to Challenger Park. They have more than enough room and no houses border the park.
