See what next year's school calendar looks like

When the first semester ends in December, students don't lose their momentum right before their semester exams and there's no need to worry about exams over the winter break. Photo by Stanislav Tatarnikov: Fotolia.Clear Creek's school board approved a calendar for the district's next school year that calls for a full week off for Thankgiving and a first semester that ends in December.

The District-Wide Educational Improvement Council and most of the schools' individual councils had supported the calendar over versions with shorter Thanksgiving breaks or a first semester that dragged on until January.

    Next year's academic calendar includes:

    • A student start date of Aug. 23.

    • A district-wide parent teacher conference day on Sept. 17. Students will be released early to leave time for the conferences, but teachers will work with parents who can't schedule meetings on that day.

    • No classes on Sept. 6, Nov. 22-26, Dec. 20-Jan. 4, Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 14-18, April 22 and May 30.

    • Last day of classes on June 2.
