A Clear Lake Shores man is in jail today, charged with indecency with a child just five days after he played Santa Claus at the Clear Lake Shores Farmers Market.
Authorities said an investigation of Glenn Roy Klusendorf, 45, had started a week before his Santa appearance, when a 13-year-old girl reported that Klusendorf had sexually molested her for seven years.
Klusendorf, 45, was working at the farmers market selling Christmas trees and was already under investigation when an officer assigned to the market as a matter of routine Saturday spotted him getting ready to play Santa.
Recognizing Klusendorf from the investigation, he got a message to Clear Lake Police Chief Paul Shelley at home even as kids were lining up to talk to Santa.
Since Klusendorf had only been living with his mother in Clear Lake Shores for two months and previously had been homeless, Shelley said police were worried he'd flee before they could get an arrest warrant. So three additional officers were summoned to the farmers market to keep a close watch on him as he asked kids on his knees what they wanted for Christmas.
"It creeped me out,” Shelley told the Houston Chronicle. “But we had to be careful so he didn't run.”
A warrant for Klusendorf’s arrest was obtained Wednesday, and officers arrested him Thursday as he drove a golf cart past the Clear Lake Shores police station.
He remained in the Galveston County Jail this morning in lieu of a $60,000 bond.
