The wait for advertising on school buses in the Friendswood school district will continue for at least another month.
The district’s school board was expected to approve an agreement with Alpha Media during its meeting Tuesday night, but opted not to take any action, district spokeswoman Karolyn Gephart said. The deal wasn’t approved because the school board wants to consider another company called Steep Creek Media that would provide more money to the district, she said.
The district’s school bus advertising will be discussed again during the school board’s Jan. 12 meeting, Gephart said. Steep Creek would give 60 percent of money derived from advertising sales to the district, while Alpha Media would provide 50 percent, she said.
“It’s not a problem at all,” said Gephart of the district having advertising on its school buses. “It’s just we have a better company we think to deal with.”
The school bus advertising is meant to generate extra revenue for the financially-strapped school district. It has projected receiving as much as $40,000 annually from Alpha Media.
