If parking on street overnight, a call to police will do

An ordinance in El Lago has been amended to allow residents to call the Lakeview police department if they are forced to park overnight on a city street.

City Council approved the change during its meeting last week, City Secretary Ann Vernon said. The city does not allow parking on its streets between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. and vehicles in violation can be ticketed $15, she said.

Yet residents can park if their driveway is full, Vernon said. To do so, residents had previously been required to leave a note on the vehicle’s explaining the situation, she said.

But in the past police officers and residents have disagreed whether there was a note in the vehicle, she said.

“It was their word against one another,” Vernon said.

With City Council’s change, residents can now call the police department or leave a note in their vehicle, Vernon said.

“If they just call dispatch, it will be recorded, and there would be no questions,” she said.

The telephone number for the Lakeview police department’s dispatch is 281-326-5900.
